Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Reshapes and lifts the breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the tissue.

Medical clearance

  • History & Physical by your primary care doctor or urgent care within 30 days of surgery. Must include a heart and lung exam.
  • EKG if you are over 50 years old.
  • Lab work as instructed: varies by procedure.
  • Mammogram within 1 year of surgery (breast procedures, age 40+).
  • Any additional clearances requested based on your medical history.

2 weeks before surgery

  • Stop aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), fish oil, vitamin E, and most herbal supplements, they thin the blood.
  • Stop nicotine in all forms (cigarettes, vaping, patches, gum). Nicotine dramatically increases healing complications.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Fill your prescriptions so they are ready at home before surgery day.

The night before

  • Nothing to eat or drink after midnight: including water, gum, mints, and coffee.
  • Shower with the antibacterial soap the office provides or recommends.
  • Remove nail polish, jewelry, and body piercings.
  • Get a full night's sleep: arrange rides and childcare in advance.

The day of surgery

  • Wear a loose, front-closing top and comfortable pants. No pullovers.
  • Leave contacts, makeup, deodorant, lotions, and perfumes at home.
  • Bring your ID, insurance card, and a responsible adult driver.
  • A responsible adult must stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
